Temporary Kitchens - Frequently Asked Questions

Starting out on a full kitchen refurbishment project can be an exciting yet daunting task. Whether the refurbishment has been planned or is a necessity due to a sudden emergency, our temporary Cabin Kitchens offer the perfect solution for those seeking a way to continue service.

Read on to find the answers to the questions we get asked the most about temporary kitchen solutions.

What is a temporary kitchen?
Temporary kitchens by Jongor Hire are portable cabin structures fitted with a fully functioning commercial kitchen set up inside. Available in a variety of sizes, the units are fully compliant with building regulations and health and safety legislation, including extraction, gas interlock and fire suppression requirements.

At Jongor Hire, we can supply a temporary Cabin Kitchen with preparation, cooking and dishwashing equipment, which can be fully customised to individual requirements. Cabins can be supplied individually or linked together with weatherproof links to form a combined facility for a large-scale operation.

Where are Cabin Kitchens frequently used?

  • A kitchen refurbishment
Where an interruption to service is not an option. This could be at a pub, care home, hospital, school or restaurant

  • In an emergency
When a fixed kitchen is unexpectedly out of service due to flooding or a fire

  • When extra capacity is required
    During peak events or seasons

  • For an event
Short term hire for sporting events, concerts or festivals

What features are included in a Cabin Kitchen?
Cabin Kitchens include as standard all features of a permanent kitchen such as:

  • Overhead extraction with gas interlock system and LED lighting

  • ANSUL® fire suppression system

  • Powerful LED lighting, plus emergency lights

  • Water heater for instant hot water

  • Insectocutor

  • Double bowl sink

  • Hand wash sink

  • Stainless steel splashbacks

  • Lockable doors, non-slip floors and floor drains.

Optional extras include fire and intruder alarms, ramps and access stairs, and temporary power and water supplies.

What catering equipment comes included in a Cabin Kitchen?
Each unit, whether for food preparation, production or for warewashing, comes with a standard set of catering equipment, designed to suit most catering requirements.
Equipment can be swapped or upgraded depending on the customer requirement.

Where can you put a temporary kitchen?
It is important that enough level space to accommodate the number of temporary kitchens is available. Heavy goods vehicles with cranes will be used to transport and deliver the units, so the area will need to be accessible. A site survey will usually be carried out before delivery. It is also necessary to think about power and services needed. Your temporary kitchen will need access to water, electricity and/or gas, and waste facilities. If these utilities are not within easy reach, Jongor Hire will connect to temporary facilities, or generators, water tanks and portable gas.

Can you help with installation?
At Jongor Hire, we can provide a full installation service as part of the supply package. Using our engineers, we can supply and connect to utilities, whether these be fixed or temporary supplies.

Can you help with delivery and collection?
We will create a delivery and collection schedule for your temporary Cabin Kitchen to suit requirements. At Jongor Hire, we have national coverage and can deliver 24/7. Units will be delivered on a HIAB lorry which is a flatbed truck with an in-built crane.

Can you help me design the layout of the temporary kitchen setup?
Our experienced team can offer guidance on effective temporary kitchen designs and proven packages. We can create CAD plans if required to help map the space and service requirements.

Can you provide access steps or ramps if required?
Yes, we can offer these and will be able to advise on what is required after a site inspection. We can also connect to a temporary eating area if required.

What utility services will be required?
All Cabins will require an electrical supply to power the internal infrastructure such as lights and fans. Kitchen equipment can either be powered by LPG, Natural Gas or Electric, depending on what is most suitable to the site. If gas isn’t an option, we can offer advice on temporary electrical supplies. Water and waste will also need provision and Jongor can organise this. We will discuss all of this with you during the site survey.

What happens when something breaks down during the hire period?
At Jongor Hire, we always have an engineer on-call to help you with an equipment breakdown. Just call us and we will work with you to turn around the issue as quickly as possible. We normally repair equipment on the same or next day.

How much does a temporary kitchen cost?
The final cost of a temporary kitchen is dependent on several factors including:

  • The length of time, number and size of the units required

  • Delivery, installation and collection

  • Temporary power and water supplies

  • Linking, ramps and steps

Speak to one of our kitchen experts for a quotation tailored to you. For large, complex setups, a site visit will usually be required before a full quote can be given.

I need a kitchen urgently. How quickly can you deliver?
Depending on availability, we can usually have temporary kitchen delivered and up and running within 48 hours.

I need a temporary kitchen for a year, should I just buy one?
There is no minimum or maximum hire period at Jongor Hire. Rental of a temporary solution spreads the cost and reduces risk. Jongor Hire undertake the maintenance of the units and internal equipment throughout the entire hire period and will collect the units on the desired date; meaning no need to look for a buyer, negotiate a sale or have the seller’s liability that the units are safe for sale.

What is the minimum length of time I can hire a unit?
There is no minimum hire period for a temporary Cabin Kitchen

What if I need to extend the hire?
We will work closely with you to arrange the collection date and will let you know the availability of the units on hire and the equipment inside it.

What safety standards do Jongor Hire Cabin Kitchen units conform to?
Cabin Kitchens by Jongor Hire are manufactured using qualified electricians and Gas Safe Registered engineers. Each unit is fitted with a gas interlock extraction system and an ANSUL® fire suppression system. Our Cabin Kitchens are the only temporary kitchen solutions supplied in the United Kingdom that meet ANSUL’s recommended coverage guidelines. We can also provide Method Statements and Risk Assessments if required.
